A later editor bundled earlier scriptures in the book of Daniel. Daniel 6:29 also suggests the Daniel of Daniel 6 and the Daniel of Daniel 1-5 are not the same person.
The king Darius of Daniel 6 is Darius I, the Koresh/Cyrus his son Xerxes. One of many indications for this is: Darius in the book of Daniel still bears the title king of the Chaldeans = the Babylonians, while Koresh/Cyrus is called king of Persia.
In archeology Xerxes was the king who changed this title after he had molten down the golden Bel statue of Babel.
