When and how did the Twelve Apostles die?

Summary:  The Bible only mentions the deaths of two apostles, James who was put to death by Herod Agrippa I in 44 AD and Judas Iscariot who committed suicide shortly after the death of Christ.    The details of the deaths of three of the apostles (John, the Beloved, Bartholomew and Simon the Canaanite) are not known at all, either by tradition or early historians. The deaths of the other seven apostles are known by tradition or the writings of early Christian historians.  According to traditions and the Bible, eight of the Apostles died as Martyrs.  At least two of the Apostles, Peter and Andrew were crucified.

Simon Called Peter by Christ died 33-34 years after the death of Christ.  According to Smith’s Bible Dictionary, there is "satisfactory evidence that he and Paul were the founders of the church at Rome and died in that city. The time and manner of the apostle’s martyrdom are less certain. According to the early writers, he died at or about the same time with Paul, and in the Neronian persecution, A.D. 67,68. All agree that he was crucified. Origen says that Peter felt himself to be unworthy to be put to death in the same manner as his Master, and was, therefore, at his request, crucified with his head downward."

When and how did the Twelve Apostles die
'Caravaggio's depiction of the crucifixion of Apostle Peter.

James the son of Zebedee:  He was put to death by Herod Agrippa I  shortly before the day of the Passover, in the year 44 or about 11 years after the death of Christ.  From Acts 12: 1-2.

John: No death date given by early writers.  Death date is by conjecture only and is variously assigned as being between 89 AD to 120 AD

Andrew:  No accurate death date given. A variety of traditions says he preached in Scythia, in Greece, in Asia Minor and Thrace.  He is reported to have been crucified at Patrae in Achaia.

Phillip:  Again, the Bible does not say when he died nor do we have accurate information.  According to tradition, he preached in Phrygia and died at Hierapolis. Update: FoxNews July 27, 2011, Tomb of the Apostle Phillip is found in Hierapolis.

Bartholomew: There is no information concerning his death, not even by tradition

Matthew: He must have lived many years as an apostle since he was the author of the Gospel of Matthew, which was written at least twenty years after the death of Christ. There is a reason to believe that he stayed for fifteen years at Jerusalem, after which he went as a missionary to the Persians, Parthians and Medes. There is a legend that he died a martyr in Ethiopia.

Thomas: The earlier traditions, as believed in the fourth century, say he preached in Parthia or Persia and was finally buried at Edessa. The later traditions carry him farther east.   His martyrdom whether in Persia or India, is said to have been by a lance. And is commemorated by the Latin Church on December 21 the Greek Church on October 6, and by the Native  Americans on July 1.

James Alpheus: We know he lived at least five years after the death of Christ because of mentions in the Bible.  According to tradition, James son of Alpheus was thrown down from the temple by the scribes and Pharisees; he was then stoned, and his brains dashed out with a fuller’s club.

Simon the Canaanite – No information either in the Bible or by tradition.

Jude (Thaddeus): according to tradition Jude taught in Armenia, Syria and Persia where he was martyred.  Tradition tells us he was buried in Kara Kalisa in what is now Iran.

Judas Iscariot: Shortly after the death of Christ Judas killed himself. According to the Bible he hanged himself, (Matthew 27:5) at Aceldama, on the southern slope of the valley of Hinnom, near Jerusalem, and in the act he fell down a precipice and was dashed into pieces.

  1. Matthew 14:1-14 John the baptist beheaded.
    Matthew Chapter 14

3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put [him] in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.

4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded [it] to be given [her].

10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

    1. Thanks for this comment! If one person writes, there are probably many others with the same question or thought.
The scriptures you are quoting refer to the death of John the Baptist who was killed just as Jesus began his ministry.
John the apostle was still alive years after the deaths of both John the Baptist and Jesus.

    2. @ patrocinia, this john you spoke of is John the baptist who died while JESUS was still around. But Apostle John is the author of the books of John, 1,2,3 Johns, and revelation. That john was Jesus’s disciple whom the angel of God gave the visions in the book of revelation to on the island of patmos, he was alive after Jesus’s death. Two different johns

      1. Is john the beloved the same john who wrote revelations? Is he again jesus’s brother by birth?

        1. John the Beloved is the same John who wrote the book of Revelation. He is not Jesus brother but rather the brother of James, the son of Zebedee.

          1. it is jesus who told his mother ,woman behold your son.and turning to john the ,jesus said ;behold your mother, that is the only explanation towards john/jesus brotherhood, but not biological

          2. Yes, I agree with Margaret!

        2. jesus had no earthly brothers or sisters or a wife or any children by a wife. the closest to being a earthly brother at all would be james, raised with jesus by mary. mary had no earthly men, she was the only wife of god. the name god is no where spoken on any place of creation but earth, also jesus was not like any man on earth down there (reproduction) and mary, jesus mother was not like any earthly woman down there (reproduction). jesus was pure spirit with a flesh covering at birth.

          1. After the birth of Jesus Joseph took Mary to be his wife. They had other children, although some churches teach hthe children were relatives. The scripture tells of Jesus’ mother and brothers coming to persuade Him. He says His mother and brothers are those who do the will of the Father. Jesus brother James grew up with Him. Te brothers are listed in Scripture. Google it.

          2. This I think is not correct that Jesus had no earthly brother as it is belived that Joseph the Spouse of Mary died when Jesus was Twelve years old. Does it mean that he (Joseph) was so angry that did not go into Mary again till his death. Jesus had brother. Remember him saying that those they call his brothers are not unless those who does what His heaven Father commanded.

          3. You not factual. Marry is the wife of Joseph, after the birth of Jesus, they consummated their marriage produced children, Read the Bible, it’s all recorded but not the assumption of Marry to the heaven which is a Roman Catholic doctrine but it’s not Biblical.

          4. Greetings, don’t understand when you guys said mary the wife of god, is’t she the wife of Joseph on earth? Then, which of the god are you refering to?

          5. Sorry but GOD in His Holy Word, tells us differently. Matthew 1:18-25 tells us that Joseph married Mary, and they did not have sex until AFTER she gave birth to the Messiah. That was to fulfill the prophecy, “a maiden/virgin will give birth” (Isaiah 7:14).

After the birth of the Messiah, Joseph DID “know his wife” and she conceived children with him. Apostle Mark tells us their names.
Mark 6:2-3 2And Sabbath having come, He began to teach in the congregation (synagogue). And many who heard Him were astonished, saying, “Where did He get all this? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such miracles are done through His hands?
3“Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Miryam, and brother of Ya‛aqoḇ, and Yosĕph, and Yehuḏah, and Shim‛on? And are not His sisters here with us?”

Jesus’ brothers are mentioned in several other Bible verses. Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, and Mark 3:31 say that Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him. The Bible tells us that Jesus had four brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). The Bible also tells us that Jesus did have sisters, in Matthew 13:56. In John 7:1-10, His brothers go on to the festival while Jesus stays behind. In Acts 1:14, His brothers and mother are described as praying with the disciples. Galatians 1:19 mentions that James was Jesus’ brother. The most natural conclusion of these passages is to interpret that Jesus had actual blood half-siblings.

Mark 6:2-3 2And Sabbath having come, He began to teach in the congregation.

As the Bible says, Jesus had at least 2 maybe 3 sisters, Anna, Mary, and Salome (Salome in Mark 15:40 and 16:l ). You might also be interested in knowing that the sons of Zebedee (John and James) are his cousins as are the sons of Alphaeus (James, Joses (Barnabas), and Simon (?)). Alphaeus also had a daughter named Mary who was the mother of John Mark. Simon Peter says that John Mark is his son his epistles, so it seems apparent to me that he and Mary were married. To recap, it seems from scripture that Jesus had four brothers, at least three sisters, five male cousins, and at least one female cousin, Elizabeth mother of John the Baptist. My understanding is that all of his cousins were on Joseph’s side as Mary was an only child. Zechariah.

            Matthew Chapter 1:18, 24, 25
18But the birth of יהושע Messiah was as follows: After His mother Miryam was engaged to Yosĕph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant from the Set-apart Spirit. 24And Yosĕph, awaking from his sleep, did as the messenger of יהוה commanded him and took his wife,
25but knew her not until she gave birth to her Son, the first-born. And he called His Name יהושע.
The Catholic concept that Mary was a perpetual virgin is false.

          6. actually Jim,
Jude, James – who was also the head of the Jerusalem church after the death of Christ, or have you forgotten your scripture? You know where Christ was told His mother and brothers were outside for Him. To which He replied, “Who are my mother, my brothers and sisters? Those who do the will of Him who sent me.” Stop showing your ignorance.

          7. Pardon me but, Jesus had several “half” brothers and perhaps a “half” sister or two as well. Scripture says that Jesus was both fully God and fully man at the same time. He never married but was still a human being and God together. And, the Bible states that after Jesus’ birth Joseph and Mary went on to have the half-brothers and sisters aforementioned herein.

          8. Not biblical at all. Mary had a husband named Joseph. Jesus brothers are mentioned at least once. Recorded in scripture.

          9. this person has fallen for a catholic doctrine which is false. he is completely blinded by its doctrine, never checks the Bible nor the Jews’ bible. In this occasion, perhaps he’ll change some verse in the Bible…. like other false-christian belief.

I hope His salvation for you from Jesus’ death won’t be wasted… For it is Jesus who bless people, not Mary, His mother. Blessing!

          10. that Mary was ‘not like any earthly woman regarding reproduction is true in a way, but because of that statement; many have formed a religious thought with many ideas about Mary that are not true. For one she is not to be statued and lifted up as not earthly and different from all. Yes someone had to be chosen to do this give birth to Jesus, but she is not to be idolized to a statue sense / she is rather, humble and blessed, totally all human like us. She still is born from Adams lineage and has that sin seed in her like all people born from Adam. She cannot be separated from everyone and immortalized like some religions make her out to be. Jesus has no mother or father on earth. He even said so. In a way he did, but they are not like Him. His Father is in heaven, and only that Father is the one to call Father. No statues, no Mary as being the God mother we pray to. NO. The Holy Spirit must be lifted up and brought forward, not Mary. Mary was the good mother on earth, who fulfilled her servant role , just as the apostles did, and the disciples did. Not more, not less. If we pray to Mary, we may as well be praying to Gabrielle the angel and Michael the angel etc etc for they had a role too. No Mary is not part of the Godhead, and Mary is never to be prayed to. At all. ever.

          11. Two gospels both mention the earthly brothers of Jesus. Matthew 13 v 55 records these brothers as known and recognised by people local to Nazareth and around Galilee.
Four brothers names are given: Jude, Jose’s, James, and Simon. Mary, his mother, is mentioned by name, the sisters names are not given but sisters are mentioned as recognized. Mark 6 v 3 records the same names being given, and the mention of sisters present. Jesus grew up in a family, with siblings cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors. The Bible records all the facts. Mary was a Godly woman, but a wife and mother as “ordinary” in a Jewish culture. Like 2 v 44 mentions kinfolk and aquaintences.

          12. According to scripture Jesus did have brothers and sisters. His parents were still together when He was 12 years old do anyone honestly believe they did not have a real human relationship ????..

          13. Jim you are wrong. Mary HAD an Earthly husband. The Bible named him as Joseph. The Bible also tells us he had brothers and sisters (to be sure today they would be considered half brothers and sisters since they had a different father. Tradition tells us that at least 2 of the Apostles WERE his brothers.

          14. WOW JIM! I just finished reading your comment. I posted my earlier comment before finishing. Whoever taught you the Bible ought to removed as a teacher and sent back for retraining. First of all Mary had an Earthly husband. The Bible tells us that he took Mary to wife BEFORE Christ was born. As for her NOT HAVING REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS. The Bible also tells us that Joseph knew his wife after Christ’s birth. Those children spoken of in Matthew were the offspring of Mary and Joseph. Also, let’s look at this logically. How could she have given birth to Christ if she didn’t have any reproductive organs (DOWN THERE) That down there statement seems to imply that maybe she was deformed. Maybe her reproductive organs were elsewhere on her body. Maybe she was a space alien! No Jim, she was a perfectly formed woman with everything where it should be. Since God is the creator of the universe, how do you know his name isn’t spoken anywhere else (by what you write you seem to mean other planets). Have you been to other planets and know this first hand? Please do not make these false statements that have no basis in fact

          15. Actually, no. Per bible study in greek, hebrew, aramic,Jesus had at least 3 blood brothers and 3 sisters, conceived by most likely his mom Mary,,and his ‘stepdad’ Joseph. Dont let the falsities of Roman Catholic traditions confuse people. Please.

          16. jesus did have a brother, judah.

          17. Jesus’ earthly mother, Mary
            was married
            to Joseph,
            and besides
            Jesus, Mary
            and Joseph
            had other
            children. You
            can read the
            account of Joseph and
            Mary at Matthew 1:18-25.
            Jesus had
            other brothers and
            sisters from
            Joseph and
            Mary. Read:
            Matthew 13:55-56 and
            read Mark 6:3.

          18. Sorry, but your statement is incorrect.
Jesus had brothers. Read Mark 3:1-3 His brothers are listed (James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon.) Unless Joseph had them, Mary must have. The bible does not even suggest Mary and Joseph were not intimate. Also read Luke 8: 19-20.

          19. Correction to last statement from Travis H. Read Mark 6:1-3 not Mark 3:1-3

          20. Answer: Jesus’ brothers are mentioned in several Bible verses. Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, and Mark 3:31 say that Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him. The Bible tells us that Jesus had four brothers: James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (Matthew 13:55). The Bible also tells us that Jesus had sisters, but they are not named or numbered (Matthew 13:56). ALL MARRY CHILDREN ARE YOUNGER THEN JESUS. BECAUSE MARY WAS PURE. WITH LOVE

          21. Isaiah 9;6 explains who Jesus was, also John 1;1-14

          22. If you say; Mary had no earthly man then where to you put jesoph in mary’s life and what do the bible say about Joseph and James to Mary?

          23. This certainly contradicts Matt. 6:33 where Jesus’ brothers are listed and sisters are implied but not named. It is best for one’s theology to come from Scripture and not tradition.

          24. Jim, that is incorrect. Jesus in fact had brothers and sisters out of the same womb who birth him. Jesus of course was obviously the oldest child, although his conception was by God instead of Joseph like the rest.

          25. Jesus taught that marriage was the true way(new and everlasting covenant). Never at any time did Jesus TEACH one thing and DO another. Why would he do that with only the most important thing? Sometimes we forget that along with being the son of God, our Savior, our redeemer, all truth, all light, the word and the only way… He was also a man. Human in every way we are human. He just overcame all things while we still struggle. His humanity makes him even more real to me.

          26. Mark 6:3 records people becoming angry with Jesus when He taught in His hometown. They rejected Him as a prophet and responded, “‘Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?’ And they took offense at him.” This passage indicates that Mary had at least seven children, including Jesus.
Efforts to prove that Mary remained a perpetual virgin are not based on Scripture but on a misguided allegiance to a woman who was as fallible as any other human being (Romans 3:23). While Mary was chosen by God for the holiest of tasks, she was, in her own words, “a humble servant” (Luke 1:48). Mary is given no special place in Scripture, and any effort to exalt her to godlike status is man-made heresy. Mary was a sinner just like every other human being that has ever lived. The bible says that there was only ONE that was sinless and that is Jesus. Mary died jon earth just like every other person and Mary was saved just like every other born again Christian is saved… by receiving Jesus as her Lord and Savior. That is the only way anyone can ever enter heaven. Mary did not ascend into heaven, and to call her the Queen of heaven is blasphemy. There is no queen of heaven. There has never been a queen of heaven. There is most certainly a King of Heaven, the Lord of hosts. He alone rules in heaven. He does not share His rule or His throne or His authority with anyone. The idea that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the queen of heaven has no scriptural basis whatsoever. Instead, the idea of Mary as the queen of heaven stems from proclamations of priests and popes of the Roman Catholic Church. While Mary was certainly a godly young woman greatly blessed in that she was chosen to bear the Savior of the world, she was not in any way divine, nor was she sinless, nor is she to be worshiped, revered, venerated, or prayed to.

        3. John the beloved [Lazarus was the disciple that Jesus loved] is not the apostle John to whom the gospel attributed look read JOH 21:20
thru to the end of the chapter and verify this…..

        4. Yes..

        5. John wrote Revelation. (There is only one revelation, not revelationS) He is the beloved. This same John wrote the Gospel according to John, and the epistles I, II , and III John.

        6. No he is not The John who wrote the book of revelation was obe of the APOSTLES of JESUS CHRIST

        7. John the Beloved did write the Gospel of John, 1st, 2nd,and 3rd John (Epistles) and Revelation. In the traditions of the early Christian Church, John was exiled to Patmos because the enemies of the Christians tried to kill him several times but. we’re unable to. After 100 AD we no longer hear of John. Some believe he was translated to a deathless state and will be the prophet that will lead the Ten Lost Tribes to the New Jerusalem.

        8. i will like to have answer to this question

        9. Yes … it was the same John the beloved that wrote the revelations

      2. Isnt there three Johns then? John the Baptist, John the Apostle, and John the Evangelist

        1. The Bible records many named John. The two very most mentioned are John the Baptist,
a cousin to Jesus who evangelized and baptised Believers into the gospel message of repenting and following the Messiah. He was also arrested and later beheaded, he, John the Baptist, did not write any of the Bible. The author of the Gospel of John, who was one of the 12 disciples, also wrote, First John, Second John, and Third John. Short letter like books in the New Testament. The book of Revelation, the last book in the new Testament. Was also written by this John, the same oneJesus and scripture called “beloved”.

      3. Reference to the John who wrote the gospel is not the apostle , but the disciple whom Yeshua loved, go to the last two chapters of the Gospel attributed to John. And read it. For it indicates that the disciple that Jesus loved was the Writer.

      4. True. The disciple that Jesus/Yeshua loved was also named John, he is identified as follows Disciple that Yeshua love. Heis the only one as stated by John’s Gospel, but the writer thru the rest of the gospel addresses to him as “the other” Disciple” his name was John Eliezar, name only given to a priestly man. If you read the last two verses see what it says about who wrote the Gospel .

        1. Victor no offense but you are teaching a false doctrine. The Apostle John is the author of five New Testament books: The gospel of John, the three short epistles that also bear his name (1, 2, and 3 John) and the book of Revelation. John was part of Jesus’ “inner circle” and, along with Peter and James. At the same time, John is also called the “apostle of love.” In his own gospel, he refers to himself as “the one whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, 20:2, 21:7, 21:20). He is depicted as the one leaning against Jesus’ breast at the last supper. His brief second epistle is filled with expressions of his deep love for those in his care. He addresses his first epistle to a group of believers “whom I love in the truth” and exhorts them to “love one another” by walking in obedience to Jesus’ commands (1 John 1:1, 5-6)

    3. John the Baptist was not a disciple.

      1. The practical argument against Mary the Mother of Jesus not having other children comes in the form of another question: If you, a virgin, had personally been visited by the Holy Spirit of God and impregnated with God himself, would you be inclined at all to give yourself, after the birth of Jesus, to a mere man? Your social position has already been taken care of–you have a child (Jesus) and are married, and so carry no stigma of barrenness or being an unwed mother.

        1. the Bible plainly says that Mary had other sons and daughters!

          1. Yes it does! Not to cause dissension, because it is out of love, bible clearly states Jesus had at least 3 blood brothets,named..and 3 sisters,by his mom Mary. The cultism of Catholicism is difficult for them to accept. Please inform them lovingly, biblically!

          2. ” Is this not
the Carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers James and
Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And his sister, are they not all
            with us?…. ”
            ( Matthew 13: 55-56 ), New World
            Translation of the Holy
            Scriptures

        2. In those days life expectancy was not good and there were many people taken in for adoption. No way of being certain that these “brothers” of Jesus were actually blood brothers. Just as likely that these other brothers were adopted into Mary’s family. Remember at the Cross Jesus told John “behold you mother” and, to Mary, Jesus said “behold your son” regarding John.

          1. There actually is a way to be certain of this. The greek word here is adelphos and indicates a shared parent. So adoption would not work in this context.

          2. Ur prjecting She was not enprgnated by god. It says plainly the holy ghost was responsible for marys inception

          3. Bob…show me in the Bible where it says Mary and Joseph ADOPTED these other brothers and sisters. The Bible says he had brothers and sisters and a mother and father. Since it isn’t stated there the assumption MUST be they were of the natural variety. This assumption of adoption comes from the Catholic dogma which has no basis in Biblical fact.

        3. Tradition and the nature of the ancient culture of Judaism would expect any wife and husband to have normal relations in marriage. Joseph protected Mary, cared for her, provided for her and married her out of both natural feelings and Divine direction. The Bible makes no mention and no provision under law, custom, or culture, for Mary and Joseph not to a regular husband and wife. Like 1 v 25 says: “And he, (Joseph) knew her not UNTIL she had brought forth her firstborn son:and he (Joseph) called his name Jesus.

        4. You are applying prideful, ego-centric attributes to Mary, that may be sometimes, but not necessarily, associated to attitudes today. Your argument has no validity.

        5. She was not enprgnated by god. It says plainly the holy ghost was responsible for marys inception

          1. Mike – The Holy Ghost IS God… the third person of the Trinity. Make no mistake. Mary was impregnated by God! She also gave birth to God. Enjoy the mystery!

          2. Isaiah9;6 and John 1;1-14 explains who Jesus is

          3. John 10;30

          4. John14;7-11

          5. The fine details of Mary’s conception are not given. Why worry about it, it does not matter. It does say that” the Holy Ghost will come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee”. Anything more than that is just pure speculation, and why? It does say the Jesus is the “Son of God”. That is what’s important.

And again Jessie, the Holy Ghost is ..not.. God. but is part of the Trinity (meaning 3). There are numerous references in the scriptures showing they are separate. Take Jesus’s baptism. The Holy Ghost descended like a dove, a voice from heaven said “This is my Beloved Son”, and Jesus was right there. 3 distinct personages. Catholicism has muddied the waters and mystified things in their effort to control the people. It does not make any sense that God would want to “mystify” us. That defies the purpose of us getting too know Him. “For this is life eternal, that they might know thee..”

        6. The writers of the letters of James and Jude are Christ’s brothers. His @half@ brothers. Same mother(Mary), different fathers (Joseph, God the Father through the Hoky Spirit).

      2. john the Baptist was sent ahead to tell of Jesus’ coming to all and he himself had disciples, his own disciples that helped him.

        1. To :Guy Chamberlain,
The Triune Godhead are : God the Father , God the Son and God the Holy Spirit . There are 3 persons in one God .
1John 5:7: For there are 3 that bear witness in heaven , the Father , the Word and the Holy Spirit , and these three are one .
John 17:5; Jesus said , ” And now Father , glorify Me together with Yourself with the glory which I had with You before the world was . Also : John 1:1 ,14.

          1. Diane, The Bible teaches that the Father is God, that Jesus is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God. It is referred to as the Trinity.
The Trinity is one God existing in three Persons. Understand that this is not in any way suggesting three Gods. Keep in mind when studying this subject that the word “Trinity” is not found in Scripture. This is a term that is used to attempt to describe the triune God—three coexistent, co-eternal Persons who are God. Of real importance is that the concept represented by the word “Trinity” does exist in Scripture. The following is what God’s Word says about the Trinity:

            1) There is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:4; Galatians 3:20; 1 Timothy 2:5).

            2) The Trinity consists of three Persons (Genesis 1:1, 26; 3:22; 11:7; Isaiah 6:8, 48:16, 61:1; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). In Genesis 1:1, the Hebrew plural noun “Elohim” is used. In Genesis 1:26, 3:22, 11:7 and Isaiah 6:8, the plural pronoun for “us” is used. The word “Elohim” and the pronoun “us” are plural forms, definitely referring in the Hebrew language to more than two. While this is not an explicit argument for the Trinity, it does denote the aspect of plurality in God. The Hebrew word for “God,” “Elohim,” definitely allows for the Trinity.

      3. That is correct, John the Baptist was not a Disciple, and was beheaded shortly after Jesus started his ministries. John the Evangelist and John the Apostle, were the same, and also in Revelation 1:3. How he died??

    4. This was really helpful

    5. John the Baptist was not an Apostle..he was a disciple, a believer and the first to Herald Christ coming from his mother’s womb when Mary visited John’s mother Elizabeth prior to John’s birth.. He recognized, he signified, he prophesied. But he did not live with Him on daily basis.. his role was different than the 12 Apostles. But certainly no less important. We live his message now: Prepare ye the way of the Lord.

    6. the king did not know that his word must be noted.
and of course he had made an oath.

    7. John The Baptist was not an apostle.

      1. True, John the Baptist was God’s messenger preparing for the entrance of God incarnate, God in the flesh, also Jesus said that John the Baptist was more than a prophet, since Elijah never died, but was taken into Heaven, could not be Elijah sent back to earth to prepare the way of the Lord..

  2. Yes that’s true, this bible passage is about John the Baptist not John the Beloved. John the beloved didn’t die a matyr, he wrote the Book of Revelation for he was exiled to the Island of Patmos after he was thrown into a pot of boiling oil but didn’t die.

    1. This is very true, The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen. But man has not reached a final destination, that is, discovered a final answer to the ultimate meaning of life/full acount of the truth concerning the past and will therefore carry on searching/moving.

    2. Is there a place in the Bible that refers specifically to John’s being thrown into a pot of boiling oil? Please advise, as I’d like to read further. Thanks

      1. Hi Melanie
It is not in the Bible but it is in writings of the early church fathers.
        From the Catholic Encyclopedia…

        The later accounts of John

The Christian writers of the second and third centuries testify to us as a tradition universally recognized and doubted by no one that the Apostle and Evangelist John lived in Asia Minor in the last decades of the first century and from Ephesus had guided the Churches of that province.

In his “Dialogue with Tryphon” (Chapter 81) St. Justin Martyr refers to “John, one of the Apostles of Christ” as a witness who had lived “with us”, that is, at Ephesus. St. Irenæus speaks in very many places of the Apostle John and his residence in Asia and expressly declares that he wrote his Gospel at Ephesus (Against Heresies III.1.1), and that he had lived there until the reign of Trajan (loc. cit., II, xxii, 5). With Eusebius (Church History III.13.1) and others we are obliged to place the Apostle’s banishment to Patmos in the reign of the Emperor Domitian (81-96).

Previous to this, according to Tertullian’s testimony (De praescript., xxxvi), John had been thrown into a cauldron of boiling oil before the Porta Latina at Rome without suffering injury. After Domitian’s death the Apostle returned to Ephesus during the reign of Trajan, and at Ephesus he died about A.D. 100 at a great age.

Tradition reports many beautiful traits of the last years of his life: that he refused to remain under the same roof with Cerinthus (Irenaeus “Ad. haer.”, III, iii, 4); his touching anxiety about a youth who had become a robber (Clemens Alex., “Quis dives salvetur”, xiii); his constantly repeated words of exhortation at the end of his life, “Little children, love one another” (Jerome, “Comm. in ep. ad. Gal.”, vi, 10). On the other hand the stories told in the apocryphal Acts of John, which appeared as early as the second century, are unhistorical invention.

        (from http://bibleforums.org/showthread.php/234843-Apostle-John-boiling-in-oil)

      2. I don’t think so, the story I have heard is that, John was beheaded for Herod Antipas’ daughter. I could possibly be wrong but this is what I have heard.

        1. That is true for John the Baptist but John the Apostle is a different person. Thank you for helping clear that up. it’s a common misunderstanding

      3. Describe how John Mark escaped being crucified and how did he die..need for Sunday School this Sunday.

    3. John (John the Beloved) did not die, but was told by Jesus that he would “tarry till I come” (the second coming). John 21:20-24 shows that even the apostles said he wouldn’t die, but Jesus actually said he would “tarry” (pretty much the same thing). Anyway he was changed so that he could not die as we normally understand it.
Other writings show they tried to kill him but couldn’t, so he was exiled to Patmos, where he wrote the book of Revelation.
Other speculations or assumptions of his death are only that, because we naturally assume that all men die, but that is not what he was promised.

    4. John of Revelations was poisoned but did not die, therefore was exiled to the island of Patmos

  3. Man will never understand the meaning of life, it will always be filled with mystery and confusion. Truths will be kept secretive for reasons of mans fears. Mans heart knows the truths all he needs to do is listen. we all need to pay homage to the almighty.

  4. Judas Iscariot In Heaven or in Hell? Did Judas go to Hell?
My sister believes Judas repented before hanging himself and therefore he is in Heaven with his master.

    http://www.tentmaker.org/Dew/Dew3/D3-JudasIscariot.html

    1. Whether or not Judas Iscariot went to hell is not tied to his action against Jesus, but rather to whether or not he had accepted Jesus as his Savior. Many have analyzed his motives in betraying Jesus and some have theorized that he did believe in Jesus, but felt that Jesus was going about things in the wrong way or that he had become disillusioned with what he had believed would be the triumphant establishment of a Kingdom on earth and had instead realized that Jesus did not intend to have his Kingdom on earth (at least not yet). In any case, if he believed, but betrayed his Savior with the best of intentions (and it is fairly certain that he did not expect Jesus to be actually harmed) then he went to Heaven. If not, then hell was his destination.

      1. The Bible is very clear about what happena to people who take there
Own life. Know ye not, that your body ia the temple of the Holyghost.
And any man who destorys this temple. He will i destory.

        1. Please tell me where the verse you quoted is found & in what Bible version.
I only find this verse that mentions body is temple: 1 Cor 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? It doesnt contain last 2 sentences you gave.

          1. I believe Jonathan is referring to 1 Cor 3:17 “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are”

          2. 1 Cor 3:16-17 you can find it

        2. You notice this text says, destroy, not send to hell. There is no place called hell. It is when God destroys all sinners at the end of the judgement. Hell would mean everyone is immortal, which is not Biblical. There will be an end to sin and sinners.

          1. I hold a different view to what you mention. Hell is very real according to the Bible.
            Rev.20:14-15(Good News Bible)

        3. that is in regards to HOW WE LIVE AND PRESENT OURSELVES. No where in that text does it refer to what happens about suicide. That is a CATHOLIC FALLACY just like worshiping the saints and confessions only to a priest. Tell me where in God’s word does it tell you that the Messiah would teach anything less than the LAW of God? Tell me without Verse Plucking like a chicken. For truly I tell you that the doctrine OF THE CHURCH TODAY IS NOTHING MORE THAN PAGAN!

        4. Please cite the Bible verse you quote that says God will destroy whomever takes his own life. Thank you.

      2. Judas Iscariot has no bad intention to betrayed Jesus. He knows due to the miracles his master has being doing, HE thus JESUS will vanish into tin air when the soldiers come to arrest HIM, he Judas has already collected the money, handed HIM over to you, but you couldn’t catch HIM. So he Judas repented when his master was finally arrested and killed. Therefore in the last day, this sin of hanging him will not prevent him from entering heaven.

        1. On Passover night Jesus called him son of perdition, as Jesus knew his heart. He said satan had entered into Judas. Also, the Bible tells us that Judas was embezzling the disciples funds. He was acting in selfish motives in all things, and expected to be made a great leader if Jesus became the ruling Messiah.

        2. John 17:13 The risen Jesus refers to Judas as the “son of perdition” the onle lost to him. Judas may have meant little harm, but Judas went to the temple priests seeking recompense to betray Jesus. Not nice. Jesus tells Judas at the last supper it would be better not to be born, than to betray him, and Luke records Jesus as saying “woe to the man by whom the Son of man is betrayed”. Sounds very ominous for Judas. Judas was sorrowful, but did not repent. He tossed back the money, and goes out and hangs himself, by the neck, near the tombs. The priests are so guilty that even they do not take the money spent on innocent blood, not can they allow it back in the Temple Treasury. Ironically, they buy a potters field for the poor, the people Jesus most loved, lifted up, and healed, and taught. The betrayal of innocent blood, with no thought of asking for forgiveness is what sends Judas to be condemned. Not his supposed ideal of helping Jesus out in some rash way.

      3. John 17: 16-26 these verses tells of Jesus praying to God the Father for his Apostles and definitely mentioned that Judas Iscariot was singled out as lost.

    2. I have to say i disagree judas i believe went to hell jesus said one of you is a devil better for him that he had never been born at all. Never been born at all would most likely imply he went to hell for all eternity

      1. judas went to hell.cause wen he realised he sinned satan entered him he went and hung himsalf.there4 jesus said cursed is a man dat hungeth on a tree.also he neva askd 4 forgiveness.

        1. the bible says that judas repenteth to himself meaning he felt sorry for himself

    3. It’s been awhile but if I remember correctly isn’t there a reference in the NT to the
effect that Judas did not kill himself, but was murdered in secret when he threw
the 30 pieces of silver back to the men who had bought him in the 1st place. Now
I know the Bible talks of Judas putting the rope around his neck but he was found
with a large sword wound in his chest. I believe he did repent and was murdered
because he refused to stay “bought” by the same group of men who set Christ up.

      1. I’m not aware of that reference.

      2. No such references in the Bible. Matthew reports simply ” And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.” Some translators maintain that the hanging is a mistranslation, and today we would rather say that Judas was “choked up” with grief, rather than that he hanged himself.

The Gospels of Mark, Luke and John do not record the fate of Judas.

Luke does, in “Acts” record Judas death… “Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.”

To harmonized the accounts in Matthew and Acts, some theorize that Judas indeed did hang himself, but none would defile themselves during holy days, by either touching a dead corpse (thus becoming ritually unclean and being unable to participate in the Jewish rites), or by doing the work (illegal on Jewish Holy and Sabbath days) of removing the body. Thus, the body ultimately bloated and fell (or was dropped during later removal) and burst.

The details really do not matter, and are incidental to the story of salvation through Christ.

    4. killing himself was a sin

      1. NOT TRUE. Where in God’s Word, that is the Law and Prophets, does God say taking ones own life is a sin? The reference to 1 Corinthians is about how we live and present ourselves in the world to the world. For we are a set apart people who are not of this world but of the Kingdom of Heaven. Neither should we show that we have any part of this world other than to be here to save those who are lost.

        1. exodus 20: 13 says ” thou shall not kill.” unless you mean to say suicide is not killing.

        2. Try 1 Cor 3:16 and 6:19 “your body is the temple of God”. Certainly suicide is the ultimate desecration. How can you think suicide is not a sin? Are you trying to justify it?

        3. To the last couple dozen thread comments, I believe we all may discuss these ideas until we’re blue in the face. The truth is that we may never know 100% for sure about who went where in the after life but God himself. Only he knows man’s true heart all the way up to his final breath. I believe it’s selfish for the most part nowadays especially to take your own life. But The lord only knows us truly. That’s all I have to say to that. God bless everyone of you folks regardless of your denominations. I love you all as does “He”!

    5. I think Judas has been misunderstood! How could Jesus have fulfilled His destiny as Savior had He not suffered and died on the cross? And how could He have suffered and died on the cross had He not been betrayed?
As God, Jesus had to know full well who’d betray Him. Judas was used as His instrument. I believe they both knew it, and that Judas faced the most difficult task ever given a mortal man.

      1. I agree with you.

      2. I don’t think God necessarily “used” Judas, but He did “allow” evil to transpire in order for His will to be fulfilled. Jesus knew very well that Judas would betray Him otherwise He wouldn’t have chosen him to be one of His disciples. I don’t think Judas knew anything other than what he planned to accomplish by betraying our Lord.

        1. Please read Romans 9-21&22

      3. God foresee the future. He created time. He gave man free will.

    6. The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

    7. I to also believe judas iscariot went/is going to heaven, he repented therefore Jesus is a forgiving savior. St. peter repented, and Jesus forgave, and greater works did he do for Christ. So I do not believe that any of Jesus 12 disciples will be lost, but I do believe that he would not have his sit at the table with Jesus because matthias whom replaced judas iscariot took his sit. But Jesus has a place for him in heaven

      1. Only GOD knows if he is or not

        1. I’m sure Judas knows by now

          1. Hi,
You know what, weather Judas went to heaven or not, i don’t think we should bother ourselves with that. What is most important is that if Jesus was not betrayed, nobody would be saved. We just can not understand God’s way of doing things. The least we can do is thank God for Judas’ life at that time because He(GOD) knew about him(Judas)…..

          2. Galatians 3v 13

      2. I rember reading in sunday school lesson. judas went to hell. The only prayer right before garden of gethsemane prayer. mentions thebetrayer was never his and never saved. sorry can not tell you what book and verse.

I to had conflicting issues about this until we went over it.

    8. not at all judas iscariot commited a suicide so he didn’t get green fire to enter into the heaven.because it is written that it would rather be good to this man not to live.

    9. no body dies and either go to heaven or to hell whether did good or bad until that day Jesus Returns! Except Moses And Some Who Rised With Jesus If Am Not Mistaken.

    10. It is not for us to know whether Judas is in heaven or hell. Nor does it matter. No one will know until they enter heaven, or God forbid hell. However, Judas, in that moment that he handed Christ over to the Pharisees, in a way stood for us when we sin and betray Jesus. We all in a way take part in the handing over of Jesus, but Judas is our representation for all time and space in that moment.

    11. Hell? Jesus teaches us that there is a prison where we have to pay to get out. Some believe this to be a place of purging–or Purgatory. There is no final judgment until the Last Day when those who did not work for Jesus while here, but for themselves only, will be put with the goats and sent to the place of punishment made for Satan and his angels. So where did Judas go? Jesus said to his Father that he lost him. That is all we have for now.

  5. We don’t know what happened to Judas and we are not supposed to know because we are not the judges. It is possible he repented just before he died,we are not sure of that either. That is even not our concern for we are to be judged also for what we are doing. Jesus is in heaven with the other good thief.

    1. Everyone who repents and accepts Jesus as Saviour and Lord and lives for Him go to heaven.
Judas did not repent 2 Cor 7:10
He had a sorrow without repentance Matt 27:3-4
He felt bad and tried to undo what he had done but did not go to God and repent and receive forgiveness but took his life into his own hands. He did not give his life to God who was very willing to forgive.

  6. Its says no man should say if one went to heaven or hell because we don’t know. But a man can’t ask for forgiveness and go on and commit a crime, when you come into the understanding of what you did was wrong, then you ask for forgiveness and don’t commit the sin again. Where you get this understanding from is from Mary magdalene, when told to go and don’t do it again. We live by the new Testament, use old Testament as a guide.

    1. judes will be sitting with jesus even though he did what he did for jesus told them they all will be sitting on there with him for he will prepar there seats for them then told judes to do what it was that he must do and do it quickly

      1. repented come after committing sin, no man found guilty without committing crime. He didn’t repent after killing himself by handling himself, A death body can’t repent. If you kill somebody you can repent but when you committed suicide there is no repentance

        1. “He that believes in me, even though he is dead, yet shall he live.”

No repentance after death? That’s not what Jesus teaches.

      2. Only GOd knows where Judas is.

  7. Hello,

I have been doing some research and have noticed that St. Bartholomew was also referred to as Nathaniel. In addition St. Thomas also had the name Didymus. Six of the Saints tombs have been discovered the other 6 are as yet unknown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tombs_of_the_apostles#Tombs_of_the_apostles has a greater picture reference for the tombs of the saints. I am hoping however, that someone may have more data on the death of the Saints.

    Thanks

    1. Here is a good article giving the arguments for assuming that Nathaneal and Bartholomew are the same person
      http://www.keyway.ca/htm2005/20051130.htm

  8. Judas would not be in Heaven, Christ has chosen who will serve with him,if Judas has repented he might be resurected

    1. Godlives everyone if us and us a forgiving lord. Judas is with Jesus in heaven and always has been. Judas was God’s unstrument and God lives him.

      1. Nebuchadnezzar was one of God’s instruments. What about him? It is not for us to know, d pray to the ONLY GOD, for He is the CREATOR OF ALL THAT IS. We all need to study the WORD OF GOD and pray to the FATHER for understanding of that which HE deems to us.

  10. Hello. Isn’t there a tradition held that St Bartholomew was flayed alive? The Final Judgement painting in the Sistine Chapel shows this.

    1. That is one tradition. Another is that he was beheaded. Here is more on Bartholomew and his death.
      http://www.apostles.com/bartholomew.html

  11. Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) testified of Judas that “Yeshua said to them, “Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you is a Satan?”John 6:70 And that, “he went to his own place”. BTW, “Satan” is not a proper name, but a title wherein it is used here. This says to me, that Judas Iscariot did not repent of his sin of the betrayal of Christ. But, rather, that he killed himself in remorse, which is not the same as true repentance.
You will recall, another, younger man was elected by the Spirit of Holiness to take Judas’ place as the 12th Apostle, whom John records as becoming one of the twelve kings depicted in the book of Revelation.

    1. True.

Also, Jesus said: “The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” Matt. 26:24

No one is judging anybody here but with that statement we already know the verdict.

      1. Why is that people believe that humans go to heaven, when the Bible says that ” from the Earth you came and to the Earth you shall return.. We were made on Earth, not in heaven and that God will descend to Earth, with The new Jerusalem?

        1. Heaven is another name for paradise – Jesus said to the repentant thief, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (ESV) After Jesus’ resurrection, he returned to earth for many days and then returned to Heaven (paradise) in front of witnesses.
          Acts 1:9-11
9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

You said “We were made on Earth” true, (I’m assuming you are talking about the planet earth being you said “made on earth” instead of saying made of earth. But that does not necessarily mean we shall return to the planet Earth. Genesis 3:19 says “By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” God is talking about our earthly body when He says “to dust you shall return”.

          1. Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden located in the Kingdom of the Heavens (the physical kingdom of Paradise given to Jesus by God to rule)). It would make sense, then, that the home of humans is in Eden. Heaven and Paradise are two different arenas. Heaven is the home of YHVH, angels, and every spiritual being. Humans, plants, and animals were created to be material/physical beings, and this is why these organisms were confined to the Garden of Eden.

The human body, the home of the human spirit, is a gift from God, and is the vehicle used by the human spirit to experience life and living.

If the human/physical existence was so insignificant that it would be destined for Heaven, why would the angels have been driven by jealousy and envy to fall to a human state? The human body is a gift from God. There isn’t anything material/physical in Heaven; earth/material is the opposite of Heaven/ethereal/spiritual

“Material beings understand material things, and spiritual beings understand spiritual things”
            Jesus.

The human body was designed for the material world, not the spiritual one.

        2. Remember when God created us He breathed his Spirit in us and man became a living soul Genesis 2:7 so when we die our body stayed on earth and the Spirit and Soul goes to live withe the Lord. Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 the dead in Christ shall rise first, please read on.

        3. You are right in your questioning! Humans were created with a body that would allow the human spirit to experience the beauty and gift of Life. If Adam and Eve had not have disobeyed, then they would not have returned to dust because returning to dust would be the wage of sin (death).

The Bible has become so polluted by human misinterpretation, that it is better to rely on the Spirit to provide Wisdom so that you can interpret those misinterpretations correctly.

“Do not worry about what you will say because at that moment, the Holy Spirit will teach you what to say”
          Jesus

If the Spirit will teach you what to say in that hour, this means that you will not already know the answers. So this means that just because you know the Bible inside out, this does not mean that the answer will always come from the Bible (verses coming straight from the mouth of God, live and in person). Jesus was hated by the Pharisees for just that reason!!!

“Where do you get your authority?”
Pharisees ( Many of Jesus’ teachings were not found in the Torah. Jesus Gospel was THE NEW TESTAMENT).

“I’ve come on the authority of the one who sent me!”
          Jesus

    2. yes I agree

    3. Is it possible that remorse is what drove Judas to hang himself? Judas’ remorse is why he threw the gold pieces to the side. But the act of betraying Jesus was a damning act in and of itself. Hence the warning of woe. Judas was already open to the Satan/Temptation when he was stealing money from the “collection plate”.

The Devil entered Judas while he was arguing with Jesus about the profit that could have been made with the expensive perfumed oil Mary poured on Jesus’ feet. At that point, Judas had decided to betray Jesus. Judas acted on the demonic urges of greed and envy at the Last Supper.

  12. De lord told his apostles one of u is satan he knew all about judas he used 2steal money he was i/c of n as it was written dat de son of man(jesus) has 2 die 4our sins n judas being de traitor but jesus said woo! de man who is going 2betray him, beter 4him not 2’ve been born dat was already acurse by returning money 2de romans judas had repented but again he commited succide,he continued 2sin. Stealing money, betrayed jesus, last commited succide.hence iguess judas is in hell.

    1. Since this was published, I assume it was deemed worthy of being read; however, I need a translator. Anyone? Please and thank-you.

  13. judas and jesus who first died ?

  14. Simon surnamed Peter died 33-34 years after the death of Christ. According to Smith’s Bible Dictionary there is “satisfactory evidence that he and Paul were the founders of the church at Rome, and died in that city. The time and manner of the apostle’s martyrdom are less certain. According to the early writers, he died at or about the same time with Paul, and in the Neronian persecution, A.D. 67,68. All agree that he was crucified. Origen says that Peter felt himself to be unworthy to be put to death in the same manner as his Master, and was therefore, at his own request, crucified with his head downward.”
James the son of Zebedee: He was put to death by Herod Agrippa I shortly before the day of the Passover, in the year 44 or about 11 years after the death of Christ. From Acts 12: 1-2. – See more at: https://amazingbibletimeline.com/bible_questions/q6_apostles_die

  15. this is somethng gud in our way to heaven.bt i hve heard dat der is one of dem kiled wth arrows

    1. Translation, please. Thank-you.

  16. WRONG
Simon the Canaanite was crucified at Caister Lincs UK! Recorded by Painting of such in Monastry of Mount Athos, and by all early Cristian researchers and well known by the Orthodox British Church
Thomas body was moved to odessa from India. His church, Sao Thoma, is the biggest and earliest of churches in India.

  17. There are at least 2 verses in the New Testament that tell about what manner of death the apostle Peter would experience. Could you tell their references.
    Thanking you,
    George

    1. John 21:18-19 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

  18. Regarding the question of whether Judas Iscariot is in heaven or hell? John 17:12 (NIV) says: ” While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.” I believe this is the conclusion of the matter.

    1. Well said Robbie,

I was about to refer to this scripture as well.

      1. John was still on Earth when he wrote this and could not fully understand 100% the ways of God. Judas was a man loved by God. God does not destroy but loves in eternity.

  19. Hi.May God richly reward you for taking your time for this research. I have benefitted immensely.

  20. Hi there,

Can someone help me here, I know that there were prophets that God used to communicate with his people according to the OT, after them there was Jesus my savoir and his disciples. Do we have people that we can pinpoint in terms of continuing with the Gospel from generation to generation so that those that do not believe can get to see that this has been happening all these years.
    Thanks,
    Jabu (RSA)

    1. Check out “From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya” by Ruth A Tucker. It is the history of 2000 years of Christian missions.

  21. i think that the people back in the days of jesus was cruel in thay did not care ABOUT hunan life and if you look at the times it’s allmost like that now soon the mark of the beast will be here and people don’t even realize it they need to wake up before it’s to late soon, soon, soon

  22. Robbie I do think you are right, but I just always worried that Judas had to be the one that was in Gods plans to betray Jesus…(Matthew 27-3)…(he did repent when he saw that Jesus was condemned) and even carried the 30 pieces of silver back and threw the money in the temple)….I just wanted so much to believe that when Jesus assended into the lower parts of the earth and preached (after he was crucified) that maybe Judas (if he was there)…. Christ saw fit to take him back…This is just me………Myra

    1. Myra, this is what i wrote before i read your comment: Judas Iscariot was chosen for that purpose,”that Scripture would be fulfilled.” He died before he would experience the fullness of his journey with Christ; that is to see the resurrected Lord. His distruction was pre-ordained. Now are we referring to his physical destruction or spiritual distruction? His death before the Cross preclude his resurrection with the Church but does not preclude his resurrection as a Jew under the Abrahamic Covenant at some time after the Great Tribulation. Christ called him a devil, But Crist often referred to spirits of unholiness as devils or children of the devil, so Judas was no different.

  23. Will the jews who don’t believe in jesus make heaven .Please enlighten me

    1. They will be given a chance during the tribulation to choose if they don’t before the rapture

  24. judas is in hell.when Jesus rise from death he went straight 2 hell he preached the gospel n they repented but judas did not .in that hell only 2 guy who did not n judas is 1 of them

  25. Was paul a full blooded jew?

    1. He actually says he is of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew and a Pharisee. See Phillipians 3:5. At this point all the remaining peoples who were later scattered, are called “Jews.” That makes Paul a full blooded Jew.

    2. I always get confused about being a Jew. Can someone explain it to me? I always thought Jewish was a religion. Is it also a race of people or specific living area of persons? Or is it both?

  26. Makes no difference to me. It is entirely up to God to decide Judus’ s fate. Don’t judge me because my sin is different then yours. I try and live by that.

    1. I’m sorry, but sin is SIN.. It doesn’t matter which way you look at it. Sin doesn’t have any variations or levels ranging from worse to worser. Blasphemy is the only unforgivable sin. Sin is sin and yours and mine are no different. Don’t live by that. Live by forgiveness, in which the blood of Jesus covers.

  27. How can you say that Mathew lived and wrotre the Gospel of Mathey
Wikipedia says as do many other sources
    Mathew
The Gospel of Matthew was composed between 70 and 110, with most scholars preferring the period 80–90.[2] The anonymous author was probably a highly educated Jew, intimately familiar with the technical aspects of Jewish law, and the disciple Matthew was probably honored within his circle as the source of much of the tradition.[3] He drew on three main sources to compose his gospel: the Gospel of Mark; the hypothetical collection of sayings known as the Q source; and material unique to his own community,[4] all of which probably derived ultimately from earlier oral gospel traditions

    1. Not all Wikipedia articles make the assumptions you do. Please see the following
      http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Biblical_Studies/New_Testament_Commentaries/The_Gospel_of_Matthew/Introduction
      And again
We assume this Gospel was written by Matthew. The bishop of Hierapolis, Papias, was quoted by the fourth century Church historian Eusebius, that the Logia (sayings of Jesus) preserved by Matthew was written in either Hebrew or Aramaic. Some believe this record of Jesus was originally written in Greek, and then translated into other languages. The date of this Gospel could be after A.D. 70, due to the destruction of Jerusalem (Hobbs 9). Hobbs writes, “…if one accepts the deity of Jesus Christ, there is no reason why it could not have been written prior to that time,” i.e., before A.D. 70 (9).[1]

In other words, if you believe Christ foretold the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD then you easily accept the fact that it was written before 70 AD. If not, then you don’t. This site assumes the truth of the divine and prophetic nature of Christ.

  28. All I know that whatever pleases God in Heaven, in the Earth
In the seas and in the depths he does it ( Ps 135: 6), also what is
Impossible to man is possible to God ( Mark 10:27) by
This I can say that human being should always
Examine himself daily rather then examening
Others because salvation is individual and
The Lord himself has the final word for each
    Of us in life!

  29. tell me when a person dies we all say that there with the Lord now if that so why is it when the Lord comes back scripture says the dead in Christ shall rise first can’t be both ways.

    1. Your spirit is with The Lord now. Your body will be resurrected at the end

  30. This was a good research. You can send me some of these teachings through email address. God bless you
