Edomites descended from the Bible character Edom. Edom would mean “red” in Hebrew.
Edom whose birth name was Esau was the older twin brother of Jacob. Their father was the ancestor of the Jews, Isaac. They are on the Amazing Bible Timeline with World History starting in 1921 BC.
The abhorrence of Esau towards Jacob for tricking him into giving up his share of the inheritance was passed on to their descendants. Edomites and Israelites were such constant enemies that there was an account in the Bible when the Edomites didn’t let the Israelites pass through Edom. They tried to conquer the country of Israel during the time of Jehoshaphat but didn’t succeed.
The Edomites were further mentioned as a nation defeated and invaded by Saul and later by David. They allied with Nebuchadnezzar in invading Jerusalem. Their brutality towards the people of Jerusalem and their cruel actions in destroying the First Temple gained criticism from the prophets up to the later eras.
They fought with the Jews many times and became one of the nations conquered by the Maccabees at its peak. Under the leadership of the Maccabees, they were obliged to embrace the Jewish cultures. Their men were circumcised, and they were forced to follow the Jewish laws. Until the time came when they openly mixed themselves with the Jews and did their practices including paganism. The legendary Herod, who ordered the construction of the Second Temple, was an Edomite.
The kingship of the Edomites was elective as opposed to the tradition hereditary. Prior to their forced conversion to Judaism, there were no clear accounts as to what religious practices did the Edomites followed. Some thought that they could had been worshipping the deities El, Baal, Kaus, and Asherah just like the Levantine Semites.
The Land of the Edomites
Edomites inhabited the “country of Edom” which would refer to Mount Seir and Idumea. Mount Seir was previously inhabited by the Horites who were cave dwellers and the Edomites had likely copied this.
Edom was mainly covered with mountains with its principal ancient city at Bozrah. During the time of Amaziah, Petra was the capital city of Edom with its important seaports built in Elath and Ezion Geber.
It was situated inside the legendary Southern Levant in the southeast portion of Palestine covering a few of the most fertile areas in Israel. It also played a significant role in the caravan trade route as it was located in the middle of the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean Sea. Because of these, the Edomites flourished in agriculture and cattle-raising compared to the other cities that were situated in the barren areas. But they gained most from the taxes they imposed on the caravan traders that passed through their area.

This was a great debate. I didn’t read anything disrespectful. To all the people who say color doesn’t matter, it does. There will be a false Messiah. That much the scripture promises. If Satan went through all the trouble of using men to hide the real Israelites, replace them with a nation of white people, and paint our Savior as a white skinned man, what do you think the Anti Christ will look like? Also prophecy tells us God will call His children (Israel) back to the land from the 4 corners of the earth where they have been scattered. When He calls us back there will be a 2nd exodus of brown people all over the world returning home to Israel. The Gentiles will cleave to them is what scripture says. If you don’t know the color of the Messiah or His chosen you run the risk of ignorantly missing a major warning in the scriptures. So yes. Color does matter. If it didn’t, Satan wouldn’t have worked so hard to change it. Stay in prayer.
Jesus/Yeshua was a Middle Eastern Jew born in Israel, therefore He would have been olive complected or light brown in skin tone with brown eyes that were almond shaped and very dark hair. As for race/ethnicity, biologic race markers cannot be found in genes or DNA. DNA can tell what part of the world your ancestors come from but cannot identify whether or not you are black skinned, yellow skin, brown skin, white skin etc. They have proven that skin color depends on the solar intensity of the region that your ancestors come from. In tropical and sub-Saharan/desert areas of the world the skin tones get darker because of the necessary added pigmentation to deal with the effects of the sun on the skin. The wider flatter nose is designed for warmer more humid climates as well…and they’ve determined that coarser curlier hair fibers provide more UV protection in those same areas where there is the intense solar radiation. However in cooler climates where there is less intense sun exposure the skin gets lighter, the shape of the nose changes because the air is drier and the hair texture is also modified. Basically, they’ve determined that the concept of race is a social construct but biologic race does not exist even though it’s really hard for us to wrap our heads around that. DNA doesn’t lie.
Olivia are green and black. Where do you get middle eastern from. Where is the middle west north or south. Help me understand
I don’t know from where James is reading , but what you stated that what the bible says Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.
There is no mention of a young virgin
You’re just wrong…..
But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!” Then he said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:12-14 NKJV
So if Ahaz made the prophecy of the virgin and he worshipped Molech and Jesus came to fulfill his prophecy does that mean followers of Jesus are worshipping Molech? That’s why I think he was the false messiah. Besides no one can take away sin besides God
That is completely false, why did you only use Isaiah 7:12-14? Why did you use an incorrect translation? It doesn’t say a Virgin, it says a Young Maiden, those are two distinct different words. If you read verses 15 and 16 that tells what the sign is. It’s not that a Young Maiden or a Virgin shall conceive and birth a child. The sign is the child will be eating curds and honey when he is “old” enough to know to reject wrong and accept good. Is that a real sign? No it isn’t but verse 16 says this. Before he knows to reject wrong and choose right the two kingdoms to the North will be destroyed. So it’s telling Ahaz that the kingdoms to the North will be destroyed when the child is “old” enough to reject wrong. What comfort would Ahaz get from the coming of Jesus centuries later?
The prophecy was actually given to Isaiah and Isaiah gave it to Ahaz.
That is right. Prophecy is of Isaiah not Ahaz. If we do not know the bible well anyone can take us for a ride. So read, understand and memorize it. I too was initially shocked till I realized how misleading it to attribute the prophecy to Ahaz. Even though Isaiah asked Ahaz not to align with Assyria, he ignored the advise. This is because immediately upon his accession Ahaz had to meet a combination formed by northern Israel, under Pekah, and Damascus (Syria), under Rezin. These kings apparently wished to compel him to join them in opposing the Assyrians, who were arming a force against Syria and Palestine under the great Tiglath-Pileser III.
He did achieve some peace but at the expense of paying suzerity to Asyria. He even adopted their gods made changes to the temple in Jerusalem in line with what he saw in Assyrian territory. He it seems even offered his son as sacrifice in fire to Moloch, the Assyrian diety. So he lowered the level of worship in Jerusalem by these acts.
Remember the Holy Triune, God the father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. All three are one. God removed sin through his son, Jesus. Jesus was God in the flesh. Remember he said to his disciples that if you have seen me you have seen the father the two are one.
There’s nothing new under the Sun. Reject Jesus blood and you are of Satan’s bloodline. The NEW TESTAMENT CLEARLY SHOWS, HIS SHEEP HEAR HIS VOICE. Jesus Christ is Dod. He IS THE FATHER THEVSON AND HAS GIVEN HIS FLOCK THE HOLY SPIRIT. TRIUNE GOD. Those who have the Holy Spirit have God.
Seems like you are reading the Bible but without understanding!
It was not king Ahaz that prophesied about he coming Christ! It was Prophet Isaiah.
Verse 13. – O house of David (comp. ver. 2). It is not Ahaz alone, but the “house of David,” which is on its trial. Men are conspiring to remove it (ver. 6). If it will not be saved in God’s way, it will have to be removed by God himself. Is it a small thing for you to weary men? i.e. “Are you not content with wearying men; with disregarding all my warnings and so wearying me? Must you go further, and weary God” (or, “wear out his patience”) “by rejecting his gracious offers?” My God. In ver. 11 Isaiah had called Jehovah “thy God;” but as Ahaz, by rejecting God’s offer, had rejected God, he speaks of him now as “my God.” Isaiah 7:13
Keil and Delitzsch Biblical Commentary on the Old Testament
The prophet might have ceased speaking now; but in accordance with the command in Isaiah 6:1-13 he was obliged to speak, even though his word should be a savour of death unto death. “And he spake, Hear ye now, O house of David! Is it too little to you to weary men, that ye weary my God also?” “He spake.” Who spake? According to Isaiah 7:10 the speaker was Jehovah; yet what follows is given as the word of the prophet. Here again it is assumed that the word of the prophet was the word of God, and that the prophet was the organ of God even when he expressly distinguished between himself and God. The words were addressed to the “house of David,” i.e., to Ahaz, including all the members of the royal family. Ahaz himself was not yet thirty years old. The prophet could very well have borne that the members of the house of David should thus frustrate all his own faithful, zealous human efforts. But they were not content with this (on the expression minus quam vos equals quam ut vobis sufficiat, see Numbers 16; 9; Job 15:11): they also wearied out the long-suffering of his God, by letting Him exhaust all His means of correcting them without effect. They would not believe without seeing; and when signs were offered them to see, in order that they might believe, they would not even look. Jehovah would therefore give them, against their will, a sign of His own choosing
Isaiah 7:13-14. And he said, Hear now, O house of David — The prophet no longer addresses himself to Ahaz singly, who would not regard his words, but to the whole royal family, all of whom he reproves, as being the king’s counsellors, and promoting the design of sending for the Assyrian succours. Is it a small thing for you — Is it not wickedness enough; to weary men? — To vex God’s prophets and people with your oppressions and horrid impieties? But will ye weary my God also? — By your ingratitude, unbelief, and disobedience to his commands? Therefore — Because you despise me, and the sign which I now offer you, God, of his own free grace, will send you a more honourable messenger, and give you a nobler sign. Or, Nevertheless, (as the particle לכןoften signifies,) the Lord will give you a sign — Although you deserve no sign nor favour, yet for the comfort of those few believers who are among you, and to leave you without excuse, I shall remind you of another and greater sign, namely, of your deliverance and preservation; which God hath promised, and will in his due time perform. Behold, a virgin shall conceive, &c. — One, in the strictest sense, a virgin, as the Hebrew word, עלמה, almah, here used, properly signifies, and is translated by all the ancient interpreters, being never once used in Scripture in any other sense, as several learned men have proved, against the pretensions of the modern Jews. See particularly Bishop Kidder’s Demonstration of the Messias, part 2. chap. 5., and Dr. Whitby on Matthew 1:23. Indeed, independent of the term rendered virgin, the text implies it. For, as the last-mentioned writer observes, “this promise is made as a sign, or miracle, to confirm the house of David in God’s promise made to him of the perpetuity of his kingdom. Now what sign or miracle could it be, that a woman should be with child, after the ordinary manner? Where is the sign or wonder in this? Had no more been intended, what need was there of these words, The Lord himself shall give you a sign? What need of that solemn notice, Behold! there being nothing new or strange in all this.” Add to this, that the original expressions are very emphatical, and are literally rendered by Bishop Lowth, Behold, the virgin conceiveth, and beareth a son, namely, that only woman, who ever was, or should be a mother, while she was still a virgin: and whose offspring, being conceived and born without the concurrence of man, was, therefore, with peculiar propriety, denominated and characterized, the seed of the woman, being her seed exclusively.
But it is inquired, how this birth from a virgin, which was not to happen till many ages after, could be a sign to Ahaz and the Jews, of their deliverance from present danger; and it is urged, that “this promise, being made to Ahaz as a sign, must have relation to a child born in his time, and therefore not to our Jesus, born above seven hundred years after his death.” To this, Dr. Whitby answers, “This objection is founded on a mistake: this promise, or sign, being not given to Ahaz, who, we have just seen, refused to ask a sign; but to the house of David, according to Isaiah 7:13. Now the house of David being then in great danger of being cut off and extinguished, by the kings of Israel and Syria, the promise of a Messiah, who was to be of the seed of David, and to sit upon his throne, was a great security that that house should not be extinguished, and so was a proper remedy against those fears.” To this may be added, that this promised birth of the Messiah supposed not only the preservation of the house of David, but also the preservation of that city, and nation, and tribe, in and of which he was to be born: therefore there was no cause to fear that ruin which their enemies now threatened. This argument is greatly strengthened by the following clause: And shall call — That is, his virgin mother shall call; his name Immanuel — The mother usually giving the name to the child, and this mother having a peculiar right to do it, the child having no human father. To be called, in Scripture language, is the same thing as to be: the meaning is, He shall be Immanuel, that is, God with us; God dwelling among us in our nature, the Word made flesh, John 1:14. God and man meeting in one person, and being a mediator between God and men. Now to whom but the Messiah was this applicable? Or waiving the import of the name; supposing the being called by this name did not imply that the child or person should be what his name signified, namely God with us, what other person, save the Messiah can be pointed out, that was called by this name? To what other event can this passage of the prophecy be made to accord? What woman, then a virgin, and afterward marrying, and bearing a son, called that son Immanuel? Surely they who contend for this sense of the prophet’s words, should point out the person so called. None have done this, and none can do it. No such person ever existed. As to what some have suggested, that Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz, might be meant, and be said to be called by that name, because he was the future governor of the land, (see chap. 8:8,) and God was with him, it must be observed, that he was born at least nine years before this prophecy was delivered, even before Ahaz came to the throne, and therefore his birth could not be intended by the prophet here. But not to pursue the argument further, which certainly is not necessary in so clear a case; we will only add, that even if it could be supposed that the prophet did first and immediately refer to some child to be then born, yet, as Bishop Lowth observes, (in words hardly consistent with what he had said, as quoted above, of the primary sense of the passage,) “The prophecy is introduced in so solemn a manner; the sign is so marked, as a sign selected and given by God himself, after Ahaz had rejected the offer of any sign of his own choosing, out of the whole compass of nature; the terms of the prophecy are so peculiar, and the name of the child so expressive, containing in them much more than the circumstances of the birth of a common child required, or even admitted; that we may easily suppose, that, in minds prepared by the general expectation of a great deliverer, to spring from the house of David, they raised hopes far beyond what the present occasion suggested; especially when it was found that in the subsequent prophecy, delivered immediately afterward, this child, called Immanuel, is treated as the Lord and Prince of the land of Judah. Who could this be, other than the heir of the throne of David? under which character a great, and even a divine person had been promised. St. Matthew, therefore, in applying this prophecy to the birth of Christ, does it, not merely in the way of accommodating the words of the prophet to a suitable case, not in the prophet’s view; but takes it in its strictest, clearest, and most important sense, and applies it according to the original design, and principal intention of the prophet.”
Not sure why people find the need to drag colour into so many conversations. The heart & character is what God looks at. Point made given we’ve no idea what colour Satan was when he was Lucifer the guardian cherub of God’s presence.
Hmm!! Reason being deception. Lies are not the truth and truth is the Bible. The truth should mean something to you, Especially if you believe in God. Why, do facts bother people so, when they don’t fall inline with ones races? Facts are facts period.
Satan has the minds of those who reject Jesus Christ. Satan is the author of confusion
Thank you because what they don’t understand is the one who God took with him was Enoch! And according to Enoch in the 6th week the ppl in the house of glory and sovereignty will be blinded. Not only that they will sink into ungodliness and in that blindness a man would come and the house of glory would be burnt! We’re living in the 7th week at it says“wrongdoing will be cut off at its roots, and the roots of iniquity, together with deceit, will be destroyed from under Heaven. And all the idols of the nations will be given up, their towers will be burnt in fire, and they will remove them from the whole Earth. And they will be thrown down into the Judgment of Fire, and will be destroyed in anger, and in the severe judgment that is forever. And the righteous will rise from sleep, and wisdom will rise, and will be given to them. And after this the roots of iniquity will be cut off and the sword will destroy the sinners. The blasphemers will be cut off; in every place blasphemy will be destroyed by the sword.”
False. We are not to worship or have false images. If you have a white jesus photo, you are wrong. If you have a black jesus you wrong. Also everyone is to cleve to Christ! He is the true vine! Israelites had their chance and they failed God! They were to be the light of the world and failed, God divorced them. Now everyone must come to Christ! Again, thinking color matters is what a carnal minded person says. Flesh and blood does not get u into the kingdom! You must be born again!
Yeshua was in HUMAN flesh..only because being a sacrifice for all whom believe and trust in Him will be absolved from all guilt in the sins committed upon belief and trust. Yeshua also is Adonai in the flesh..Adonai cannot be destroyed..He is. was and always will be forever..flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom according to scripture..when we whom trust and believe are changed at His return, regardless of what color our flesh is, was; will put on a new heavenly spiritual body like unto the angels..why is color so important to man? To me, different shades of skin color within the human race mean NOTHING..man has made the color of skin an issue..but our Holy Father sees our hearts within..our HEART is important, not the color of our hair, skin, eyes etc. God’s blessings of peace, hope and joy to all..
Lord have mercy! From Noah came Ham who became the nation of Africa Or the black race , Japheth who became the Germanic or white race, and Shem the middle-eastern or brown race from whom God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. People please accept the fact that Jesus was neither white nor black; He was brown middle-eastern. I don’t care what historical or Hollywood blunders have been made, He was from parents of Nazareth, but born in Bethlehem, because he was of the House and lineage of King David on His adopted father’s and mother’s side of the family. His family escaped to Egypt where they could blend in with other brown skin middle easterners. Thank God He doesn’t judge me for my white and Native American ancestors’ mistakes, but saved me when I asked Jesus Christ to forgive me and be my Savior! God does not look upon the outward appearance, but upon the heart. Remember that when you’re stabbing each other with your racially charged insults. By the way, His own race of people , middle-eastern brown skin people, have historically been His largest persecutors of Christianity. “He came to His own, but they received Him not.”
I agree. God is not human. He has No color. He loved and died for all. His blood delivers ALL SINNERS from hell who chose to believe
Who cares? Why fight over the colour of skin.
If God wanted the description of Yeshua then we would have known ….skin colour etc. But God is amazing and God knows that skin colour doesn’t MATTER.
Who cares? The truth is: **if we knew the true colour of Yeshua then, we still would be fighting**. So give it a rest, just be righteous and follow Yeshua.
I agree with you Sheila, we are being distracted when we focus on colour.
Jesus came to give his life for the world, in Sunday school we use to sing… Jesus love all the children of the world red, yellow, black and white. We should be focus on why/what Jesus left us or save us to do.
IN KISWAHILI “MDOMO”=MOUTH
IDUMEA “ITUMIA”=THE ONE WHO HAS HIS MOUTH SHUT
It SO does not matter from which line people are descended. Christianity says this: we are ALL descended from Adam and Eve. We became separated from close intimacy with God by not obeying his word. He sent his only son that we may believe in him and therefore be forgiven and we may all live in the love of God and share this word. God bless you and may you know a blessed day, knowing that you are forgiven and therefore bearing no grudge or condemnation against others.
We are not all descendants of Adam.
Your completely lost! All have adam and eve in their bloodline.
During Moses times, Egypt was ruled by the Greek Empire. However, during the time of Jesus, Romans were in Egypt, levant people lived in Egypt, thus, they can blend in, in Egypt. Therefore, they were able to blend in.
Reading the above comments, you’d almost have to conclude that no one actually reads The Bible. Judah (Jacob’s son) and his descendants were Jews (who later were likely referred to as “Sephardi”). Regarding bloodline, Judah was a Semite, a Hebrew, and, ultimately, a Judahite (later referred to as Jew).
Categorically NONE of these people were Jews: Noah (Sumerian); Shem (Semite); Eber, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (all Hebrews). And, NONE of these people were Jews: Moses (from Levi); David (from Ephraim); Mary (from Levi); Joseph (Jesus’s dad, from Ephraim); Paul (from Benjamin). To call Jesus a “Jew” is categorically incorrect, and, to many, it’s an offense. Many key biblical characters “ruled, lived in, or passed through Judah,” but they were NOT genetically “Jew.” ALL of what I say here is found in your bible—EVERY bit of it. This is not hearsay or opinion.
There are some who believe that the Jew (Sephardi) comes from Isaac’s son, Esau (also called Edom). Edom, the land, was located below Judah. So Edom, the man, would have been a Semite, a Hebrew, and, ultimately, an Edomite—NOT a Judahite; NOT an Israelite (or Jacobson). However, The Bible does NOT make this connection “perfectly” clear, so I don’t subscribe to it—at least, not yet.
There are others who believe that the “Ashkenazi” Jew comes from Noah (Sumerian)-Japheth (Sumerian)-Gomer (Sumerian)-ASHKENAZ. Here again, we don’t have any definitive proof of this theory.
Don’t forget to actually READ The Bible. You’ll find a lot of good stuff!
“Man Looks At The Outward Appearance, But The Lord Looks At The Heart.” Samuel16
And God already declared a man’s heart as wicked as hell. So we are all hopeless sinners and no one is better. It would have been much better if God did not even look at our hearts. From every person’s heart proceeds wickedness, lusts, blasphemies, adulteries, fornication etc. So all our hearts are evil without measure.
correct God said it. I believe itl That settles it for me.
You write about Edom yet you are blind ! Edomites are the liars, the deceivers..those who pretend to be Israel !!!
Read John ch 8 … the “JEWS” claim never to have been in bondage..yet are Abraham’s children. JESUS agrees !!!!! FOR ALL 12 tribes of Israel. ALL were in bondage in Egypt…..and later 10 tribes were exiled to Assyria – and were “lost” – and still are….( though we know where ) and the other 2 tribes to Babylon. BUT the JUDAHITES returned and found Jerusalem occupied by these EDOMITES who had aided Nebuchadnezzar….so the 2 tribes moved north and lived in Galilee NOT…a part of JUDAEA. ( Luke ch 2 v 4 )
In JESUS’ days on earth, the 12 tribes…the TOTAL 12 tribes of ISRAEL. were accounted for. SO who were those people living in JUDAEA…you know, those JESUS feared John ch 7 v 1 or ch 11 v 54 or ch 20 v 19..or those JESUS was prepared to fight.had His kingdom been of this world .John ch 18 v 36?
NOT ISRAELITES !!!!!!! The kings were the Herods of IDUMEA..sons of Antipas of EDOM !!! —.JUDAEA had become ONE joint kingdom . …. .and these Edomite kings — killed all the baby boys whilst trying to kill JESUS; killed John the Baptist; killed James the brother of John; tried to kill Peter; killed Stephen; had JESUS killed by the Romans…….WAKE UP WORLD !!!!
Those people who claim to be JEWS are EDOMITES..NOT Israelites !!!
(They admit it in their own literature.ie their own encyclopaedias.)
It is those same people who have stolen the identity of ISRAEL whilst ” Israel ” sleeps”…… Deut ch 32 v 26 and Isaiah !!!
Those who possess “Palestine” (Jerusalem) today are NOT ISRAELITES !
All 12 tribes are not scattered and “lost”…but GOD will gather them at HIS timing..not ours ! Ezekiel.
Wake up world !!! WAKE UP the worldwide CHURCH…you teach lies and deceits and hide the TRUTH of GOD..and our Lord Jesus Christ..
John ch 8 v 44..please read this…is JESUS WRONG???? NO !!!!!!!
Read Rev ch 2 v 9 and then Rev ch 3 v 9. Read John ch 10 v 36 It says of the Jews…”Ye are NOT MY SHEEP.”
The church STILL teaches that JESUS was a Jew……what BLASPHEMY !
Why can’t the world see ?????? Why can’t the church “see” ??? Perhaps Amos ch 8 vs 11-12.will help us understand ??? There is plenty more to say !
“Jews”..the word…did not exist until 18th cent. AD…….the 19th cent. AD saw the beginning of Zionism at work……and the great deception began…O so recently..and so comprehensively !
It was not Esau that was the Liar
But Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “Because the Lord your God brought it to me.” Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.” So Jacob went near to Isaac his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”
Genesis 27:20-22 NKJV
The Lord told Rivka when she was pregnant that the older twin would serve the younger, so she was obeying the Lord by prompting Jacob to receive the blessing. Jacob being a man who stayed in the tent, in Jewish terms, meant he studied the Scriptures. Esau knew he had sold the birthright to Jacob, but did not happen to mention this to his father. He did not exactly demonstrate righteousness in despising his birthright, or in his choice of wives. God mentions many times that He was not pleased with Esau, and Obadiah prophesies that because of his cruelty that he enjoyed against his brother, etc., that his descendants will be destroyed.
I wrote ” All 12 tribes are “NOT” lost…-an error !!!…I meant all 12 tribes ARE “NOW” scattered and lost ” James ch 1 v 1 !!! Sorry, please correct that for me.
Thank you. rodd.
