Shem, Biblical_Figure
Shem

Shem is the ancestor or Abram or Abraham. He lived a total of six hundred years. This is charted in the Biblical Timeline from 2448 BC – 1848 BC. It is calculated that Shem lived until Abram was one hundred and fifty years old. During that time, Isaac was also born.

Shem, after the flood

After the flood, Noah planted a vineyard and drank from its wine. Getting drunk, Noah was witnessed by Ham, the youngest son, naked inside his tent. Instead of aiding his father, Ham went to his brothers and told what he saw. Shem and Japheth took a garment and approached their father backwards to avoid seeing their father’s nakedness. Noah woke up from the wine and knew what happened. Noah said, “Blessed be the LORD God of Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant” (Genesis 9:26-27 KJV).

Shem and his generations

Shem is the father of Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram (Genesis 10:22). At the age of one hundred, Shem begat Arphaxad (Genesis 11:10 KJV). Shem lived another five hundred years after he begat Arphaxad and begot other sons and daughters.

  1. why did Noah not curse Ham instead of Cainan his grand son?

    1. When Noah said in Genesis 9:25 “Cursed be Canaan, servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.” He was referring to Ham’s decendents since Ham was the father to Canaan.

      1. No he wasn’t and you shouldnt add or take away from the bible. Cursed be Canaan means exactly that. The Canannites are a cursed people.

    2. i heard a pastor preach on this topic n he said:
how could God curse something he justified by faith?
noah n his sons was justified by faith n build n got into the ark!
so noah cursed ham’s son because GOD didn’t justify
Ham’s maybe unborn son but God kept his own law n passed Ham’s sin unto his off spring. which is mention in the good book.

  2. The curse here was not a curse in the standard that we understand to date at this coast has a set up for the plan and provision of the creator Ham would be servants to both brothers and in-service would do a great work and providing the promised land of Canaan the land of big grapes When Norrh came off the boat there was no law there was nothing wrong against drunkenness what Ham did was not defined by law so there was no real transgression so again it was a set up for later blessing Jesus his final example year who desire to be great must be the greatest servant

    1. not clear ” at this coast has” ? coast or ?? Thanks

    2. i heard grapes could sit before the flood n it would take
longer to ferment! noah’s nakedness was also a sign of rebellion maybe because of drunkenness. maybe because he didn’t seek God’s instructions after the flood like how to store n keep food as to not defile the soul..
the word from God…..was both spiritual n law….
the soul that sinneth …it shall surly die.
      God hates the flesh……..noah…jonah.
flesh connected n like Cain it was pride.
all topics was preached on n connected to the written law given to Moses by some pastors. Canaan curse is also connected to when God said in Genesis: i will put enmity between ur seed n her seed. etc also the seat of the most high would be in Jerusalem, where did the off spring of canaan dwell…..in the Levant where Jerusalem is.

  3. I am trying to teach this chart in a bible study. I search constantly for weekly information/ Question: is there a digital outline. or app that already provides the chart outline? that I may download – or purchase?

    1. Stephen there isn’t one currently. A lot of people use it to reference events in a lesson they are teaching or in tandem with a study out of a chronological Bible. Hope that helps some.

  4. Leviticus 18:8- who was naked in the tent?
Genesis 9:18 – why is Canaan mentioned in this verse?
I think Canaan is mentioned in this verse because the boy was raised in his mother’s house.
